On Thursday 26th January, members of the senior management team of BeFlexi and SGS met with the Cyprus government to discuss the future of Cyprus’ response to firefighting and water storage.

Sergey Galin and Bruno Silva, Founder and Managing Director of BeFlexi, respectively, were joined by Alim Saidov, Executive Vice-President of Oil Gas & Chemicals at SGS and Andrey Chizhevskiy, Managing Director of Laroute in meeting with Nicos Kouyialis, Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

Interest in the meeting was sparked when BeFlexi won the Cyprus International Business Association’s Startup Award in December last year.

The meeting kicked off with a discussion around local emergency services, with focus on the firefighting service. BeFlexi with SGS are able to provide cost-effective and mobile water storage solutions in the form of flexitanks (a soft bladder of 24,000 liters that can be filled with various liquids for both transport and storage).

This kind of equipment can be used by firefighters and forestry authorities to ensure immediate water supply in case of emergency, both for drinkable and non-potable water. Forest fires are considered a major and permanent threat to the forests of Cyprus. Every year, forest fires cause enormous and irreparable damage to forest ecosystems and in some cases, threaten residential regions.

Related to this is a recurring struggle to find a sustainable solution to the supply of domestic water supply, especially during water shortages. Flexitanks can provide flexible and scalable water solutions for use by local municipalities.

Lastly, the parties discussed opportunities for SGS to establish a presence in Cyprus to better serve the market with inspection, testing, certification and verification services.

Cyprus, with its strategic location, transparent tax regime and business-friendly legal and regulatory framework is a perfect choice for investment.

Following this meeting, BeFlexi will set up further consultative meetings with relevant government authorities to determine their needs and requirements to move forward.
