Containers Owners Association (COA) is the only global platform today to set standards for the flexitank industry. The COA’s flexitank division was formed in order to bring the industry to a new level of efficiency, safety and security.
There are eight main areas of safety standardization, identified by COA - Recommended code of practice for flexitank. As a member Container Owners Association and its Technical Working Group (TWG), BeFlexi ensures that its materials, procedures and operations fully comply with COA safety requirements, as well as with additional criteria set up by shipping lines.

Material Testing in Few Stages
BeFlexi’s products are manufactured under strict quality control with the use of the highest quality materials from our long term suppliers.We put an emphasis on quality consistence and work with reputable partners that have high integrity and ethics. Production environments are carefully monitored and highly secured.
The quality of flexitanks is also examined by shipping lines to identify if the equipment they carry – in particular, flexitanks – has been tested in a proper way and if the production and operations have been audited.
The guidelines for the best-practices implementation, including certification and testing of raw materials, finished products and production sites has published by COA.
Apart from manufacturing lab, BeFlexi randomly checks stock quality as per PAS:1008 with independent SGS Laboratory to be sure that we maintain sustainable quality worldwide.

Technical Training: Installation/Support
Local fitting and handling SGS staff go through training programs designed and provided by BeFlexi in order to become certified technicians. The procedures and checklists established by industry organization Container Owners Association (COA) are used and followed for every installation. Container selection, proper fitting and handling, loading, and labelling are mandatory to ensure cargo safety.BeFlexi invests resources into employee training dedicated to minimize the odds of mishandling and leakage happening.
Our training program includes four Manuals:
- flexitank installation
- flexitank loading
- flexitank discharge
- incident management and emergency plan
We maintain all training records and issue training certificates, provide latest updates and news from our R&D department to all certified technicians.
Incident Management and Insurance
While we manage to maintain leakage-free track records, we make sure we are able to handle any potential incident in the best way and in accordance with COA procedures. Our incident management and emergency plan is set in place as mandatory part of our training course. BeFlexi maintains complete liability insurance with First Tier insurance companies, providing coverage that exceeds COA standard.

Container Selection
It is critical that containers for flexitank shipments conform to certain industry-accepted criteria, meet COA Code of Practice requirements and are accepted by carrier/shipping line.
The right container is a key to safe transportation and equipment availability is a sensitive matter for any flexitanks service providers. Our certified technicians are specially trained to ensure a proper container selection and the equipment acceptance by a shipping line.
Container and flexitank marking
Container and flexitank markings are mandatory.BeFlexi understands and fully complies with COA requirements for traceability, and strictly follows marking procedures described in COA Code of Practice. Each our label contains product information, container handling instructions, as well as our contact information and 24/7 number.
Cargo Risk Assessment
Any cargo regulated as Dangerous Goods shall not be transported in flexitanks.
Certain type of products, which are not classified as dangerous goods, might still contain hazards and be unsuitable for flexitank transportation.BeFlexi provides Risk Assessment for each cargo in accordance to COA Cargo Assessment table.
According to COA Code of Practice, the cargo must be compatible with flexitank material, being entirely inert with no risk of degradation or reaction.BeFlexi provides compatibility information and recommendations to the shipper forwarder, so that potential risks could be properly assessed.
Our process of compatibility determination between the cargo and flexitank materials includes the following steps.
- Compatibility chart of the substances typically transported.
- Safety awareness of substances transported (Risk assessment & Cargo Assessment tables)
Use of Cargo SDS (Safety Data Sheet) and risk assessment process.
Report and Date Records
BeFlexi maintains all transportation and technical data and performs data analysis every six months. Corrections and improvements are put in place whereas necessary.
